On February 26th local time, during the 2024 World Mobile Congress held in Barcelona, Spain, China Mobile released the world's first computing power router (CATS Router). The device released this time took two years to develop successfully, which is a significant original breakthrough in the field of computing power networks in China. The computing router has the computing awareness, notification, and joint routing functions, breaking the traditional Internet routing methods, and building "root technology" of the deep development of computing network integration.

The computing power router was originally proposed by a team from China Mobile Research Institute, aiming to fundamentally solve the problem of joint routing between computing power and network. By introducing computing power factors into the network, it has received high attention from the international industry. In March 2023, the Internet Engineering Task Force established the CATS Working Group, chaired by an expert from China Mobile, to formulate international standards for the Computational Routing scenarios, requirements and architecture, marking that the concept of network and computing integration has become a global consensus.

The computing power router is designed and developed based on the international standards of the IETF CATS working group, and is based on the commonly used router platforms in the current network (NetEngine, ZXR10). It supports flexible computing power information expansion, adaptive computing power notification, dynamic joint routing, and other functions. After multiple rounds of testing and verification, in the edge computing scenario, the computing router can reduce the average end-to-end delay of high concurrent services by 15%, increase the capacity of computing network system by 30%, and effectively support the delay of AR/VR, Internet of Vehicles, AI reasoning and other computing sensitive business needs.

China Mobile has always been committed to building a new type of information infrastructure with ubiquitous network, computing power and artificial intelligence, providing inclusive and pervasive computing services. In recent years, China Mobile has adhered to promoting the in-depth development of computing power networks and breakthroughs in original technologies through technological innovation. Under the witness of global industrial partners, the release of the world’s first computing power router marks the entry of computing power networks into the deep waters of original technology.

China Mobile will start a pilot scale of computing power routers in the future, and will put the first batch of computing power routers into scale testing, laying a solid foundation for subsequent commercial deployment.
